Report on the Transactions of The Kintyre Antiquarian and Natural History Society

For the Year Ended 31st March, 1978.

The winter session was an undoubted success, all four lectures being well attended by enthusiastic and appreciative audiences. Dr. Peltenburg gave a most interestin talk on the excavations of Balloch Hill which produced evidence of habitation from Neolithic to Mediaeval times. The audience was thrilled by his "finds" and awaits with interest the final report.

Mr. Peter Strang gave an enthralling display from his collection of slides of the Birds of Kintyre and he was warmly congratulated on the patience and skill shown in obtaining his captures on film.

Mr. A.I.B. Stewart gave a talk based on letter books and correspondence on the life and times of Daniel Clark, a leading merchant in the town and covering the years 1794 to 1797.

The County Archivist, Mr. Murdo MacDonald, created much interest with his talk based on the Minutes of the Kintyre District Road Trustees from 1775 to 1890. His lecture relating mainly to the earlier period covered the introduction of the present road system.

The year has been particularly noted for the successful introduction of "The Magazine" under the enthusiastic editorship of Mrs. Margaret G. Hunter. A modest printing of 500 copies of the number in April, 1977, was sold out almost immediately, and a reprinting is now available. The Editor welcomes all articles on the History and Natural History of Kintyre.
