WebEdition 41 / July 2000     Produced Bi-Monthly

Welcome to the forty-first WebEdition of The Magazine.

Although every single person who e-mails me, and allows me to post that mail on the Wee Drams Page, is important to me, I'm really pleased, this month, to include an e-mail from an old school friend - who is now one of Campbeltown's best known authors - Mr Freddy Gillies. 'Froonkie', for such was his nickname (as mine was 'Acka' after the clarinetist Acker Bilk, for I was always whistling), is a son - literally and figuratively - of the fishing. I remember he and I making a bit of a mess of galvanising the steel on one of the boats. Hard work for 5 shillings. I remember, too, his great skill at the football. It's good to hear from old friends and, let's face it, like me, he's getting pretty old! Certainly older than me!

The Campbeltown Grammar School Millenium Reunion 62/63 is taking place in September of this year. If you are aged 49/50 in the year 2000, and you attended CGS, you are cordially invited to the GRAND REUNION. A buffet/Dance has been organised for Saturday 23 September at 19.30 in Campbeltown Grammar School, Hutcheon Road. £20.00 is all you need to send. If you have any photos or memorabilia, take them with you, or send them on. A great time is guaranteed!. All replies to:

The Society have expressed their concern that I am posting far too much of the Magazine on my website, and that they may be losing subscribers because of this. As always, I am sensitive to the desires of our benefactors, and have written to Frances Hood to try to clarify the situation. Subsequently, I have had a reply from the hard-copy Magazine editor, Mr Angus Martin, who has kindly agreed to let me continue 'with the present arrangements', at least until the next Magazine Committee meeting. As always, I will keep you informed.

Finally, whilst on my trip to Campbeltown in May, I was given permission by Crarae Gardens to post their brochure in the Magazine. It's on Page 7. I hope you enjoy it but beware - it'll be a bit slow on loading, for I've had to include some of the photographs they're just so beautiful.

Until the next time,

Ca' canny
